The Transition

Clarity over claims.

Switching to electric isn't just buying a different car; it's a shift in how you fuel, drive, and maintain your vehicle. We're here to walk you through the math and the realities—without the sales pressure.

The math of the switch.

See the financial difference. We've pre-filled conservative averages for the Portland metro area, but you can adjust them to fit your actual driving habits.

Assumes Portland-area averages. Calculations are estimates based on your inputs and a conservative $0.06/mile maintenance reduction compared to internal combustion. Actual results vary.

Maintenance

An internal combustion engine has thousands of moving parts. An electric motor has about two. This fundamental simplicity changes your relationship with the service department.

What you leave behind

  • Oil and oil filter changes
  • Spark plug replacements
  • Timing and drive belts
  • Transmission fluid flushes
  • Engine air filters
  • Emissions testing

What remains

  • Tire rotations and replacements
  • Cabin air filters
  • Windshield wiper blades
  • Brake fluid flushes (rare)
  • Washer fluid

Note: EVs are heavier and produce instant torque. Expect to replace tires slightly more often than on a comparable gas car. Brakes, however, last significantly longer due to regenerative braking.

Wake up full.

The biggest conceptual shift in owning an EV isn't range—it's how you refuel. The paradigm shifts from "going out of your way to a gas station" to "plugging in like your smartphone."

For the vast majority of EV owners, 95% of charging happens at home while they sleep. Using standard residential electricity rates, "filling up" an EV overnight costs a fraction of a trip to the gas pump, and takes about ten seconds of actual effort.

Level 1 Charging

Standard 120V household outlet. Adds 3-5 miles of range per hour. Fine for very light commutes, but usually not enough for most drivers.

Level 2 Charging (Recommended)

Requires a 240V outlet (like a dryer). Adds 20-40 miles of range per hour. Will easily refill a daily commute in a couple of hours, or a depleted battery overnight.

DC Fast Charging

Public stations (Superchargers, Electrify America). Adds 100-200 miles of range in 15-30 minutes. Used almost exclusively for road trips.

What to expect

  • Standard ADASLane centering and adaptive cruise control are standard on almost all modern EVs.

  • Advanced PackagesPremium software may handle highway interchanges, automatic lane changes, and self-parking.

  • Verification is keyCapabilities vary heavily by make, model year, and software version. We verify the exact feature set on every car in our gallery.

The co-pilot, not the pilot.

Modern electric vehicles feature some of the most advanced software on the road. Driver assistance systems represent a massive leap in highway comfort and fatigue reduction.

However, marketing terms can sometimes outpace reality. Whether a manufacturer calls it Autopilot, Full Self-Driving capability, Super Cruise, or BlueCruise—these are Level 2 driver assistance systems, not full autonomy. They require active supervision and a driver ready to take over instantly.

When you test drive with us, we don't just hand you the keys. We take you on the highway and show you exactly what the software can do, where it excels, and where its limits are. No exaggerations, just the reality of the tech.
